It was a joy and pleasure to see Olympic Gold Medalist, Dancing With the Stars Mirror Ball Trophy winner, and Sportswoman Foundations Team Sport Woman of the Year Award winner Meryl Davis perform in SWAY: A Dance Trilogy. With her staggeringly jam-packed schedule, the only way she could appear in the production was due to SWAY management adding a day to the run, wedging her two SWAY performances on 17 December, between her previous commitments on 16 and 18 December. Clearly, Meryl genuinely wanted to appear in SWAY going to great lengths making an already insane schedule more so, in order to dance two numbers in two performances with former DWTS partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
Three SWAY headliners; Maks, joined by his best friend, former DWTS colleague and Dance With Me USA business partner Tony Dovolani, and Burn the Floor and former DWTS colleague, Sharna Burgess also were faced with the busy travel schedule. Meryl, Maks and Sharna all performed on 16 December at Disson productions, ‘Shall We Dance on Ice’ in Bloomington, IL. Sharna partnering with former DWTS partner Olympic Gold Medalist Charlie White, whilst Meryl and Maks danced on the floor in a portion of the show. Tony needed to rehearse with Sharna for SWAY as she’d been out of the country on another business endeavor and made the trip to squeeze in practice whenever possible.
Compounding the challenges were logistical issues: no late night flights from Bloomington after the performance. Thus, the four would have been faced with a three hour drive to O’Hare to catch a flight to NY, had not a private jet been contracted to ease the enormous travel challenges. Even with the addition of a private jet, it was a grueling schedule and an incredible commitment by all parties. For those in attendance at both SWDOI and SWAY, the dedication of Meryl Davis, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Sharna Burgess, and Tony Dovolani was greatly appreciated. These are incredible professionals who clearly love to perform and as a SWAY show audience member, their sacrifice made for a fantastic theater experience. Thanks to all!

“Dancing has been in us, in people, since the Neanderthal age. There’s something about moving, something about interpreting yourself to the music, that’s attractive, that’s interesting, that’s intriguing, and everyone wishes they could do that.” ~ Maksim Chmerkovskiy
